SUMMARY:Child Tax Credit Day
DESCRIPTION:What is the Child Tax Credit? \nAdvance Child Tax Credit payments are early payments from the IRS of 50 percent of the estimated amount of the Child Tax Credit that you may properly claim on your 2021 tax return during the 2022 tax filing season. If the IRS has processed your 2020 tax return or 2019 tax return\, these monthly payments will be made starting in July and continue through December 2021\, based on the information contained in that return.\nTo qualify for advance Child Tax Credit payments\, you — and your spouse\, if you filed a joint return — must have:\n\nFiled a 2019 or 2020 tax return and claimed the Child Tax Credit on the return; or\nGiven us your information in 2020 to receive the Economic Impact Payment using the Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here tool; and\nA main home in the United States for more than half the year (the 50 states and the District of Columbia) or file a joint return with a spouse who has a main home in the United States for more than half the year; and\nA qualifying child who is under age 18 at the end of 2021 and who has a valid Social Security number; and\nMade less than certain income limits.\n\nWho should come?\n\nThose families who need to file a 2019 and/or 2020 tax return with an income limit of $57\,000 or less.\n\nWhat will happen while you are here?\nThe customer will sign in and take an intake packet consisting of 4 documents\, front\, back\, and inside\, to fill out to completion.\nUpon completion\, please return all forms to the envelope and enclose:\n\nPicture ID\nSocial Security cards for taxpayer(s) and all dependents to be listed on return\nWage and Income documents (W-2s and1099s)\nHealth insurance 1095 form\n\nScreening – An IRS certified volunteer will call you to review your documents and intake form with you.\nTax Preparation – Once you verify your information\, the IRS certified volunteer will prepare your tax return by keying in your information while you wait inside your car or the lobby.\nQuality Review – After the return is keyed\, an IRS certified volunteer will review the return with you to discuss/answer any questions or concerns.\n\nWith your approval of the return\, the volunteer will ask you to sign the consent form 8879 to e-file on your behalf and give you a copy of your return.\n\nWhat is the benefit to the participant?\nFor many families living in poverty\, this will provide an extra source of income that could help cover necessities such as transportation and childcare\, and in a post-pandemic economy.\nHow long will it take?\nIt could take 30 minutes to an hour and a half depending on the tax return. \nWhat should you bring?\nClients will need to bring the following items to a Free Tax Prep site:\n\nPhoto I.D.\, if filing joint the spouse’s Photo I.D. is also required\nSocial Security cards and birth dates\, if filing joint or claiming dependents\, the spouse and dependents Social Security cards must be provided as well\nAll W-2’s\, 1099’s\, and information on other income\nInformation for all deductions/credits\nTotal paid to daycare and their tax I.D. number\nHealth Insurance 1095 form\nAccount information for direct deposit\nIf married filing joint\, both spouses must be present\n\nWhat if I can’t come on July 23\, is there another way for me to participate and get the Child Tax Credit?\nIf you are eligible to receive advance Child Tax Credit payments based on your 2020 tax return or 2019 tax return (including information you entered into the Non-Filer tool for Economic Impact Payments on IRS.gov in 2020)\, you generally will receive those payments automatically without needing to take any additional action.\nYou must take action if you have not filed your 2020 tax return or 2019 tax return. The IRS has unveiled an online Non-Filer tool that will allow individuals who weren’t required to file (and have not filed) a tax return for 2020 to file a simplified tax return. This simplified tax return will allow eligible individuals to register for advance Child Tax Credit payments and the third Economic Impact Payment\, as well as claim the 2020 Recovery Rebate Credit.\nTaxpayers also can visit IRS.gov/filing for details about:\n\nIRS Free File\nFree File Fillable Forms\nChild Tax Credit Non-filer Sign-up Tool\, or\nFinding a trusted tax professional

SUMMARY:Women United Annual Membership Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Last year we launched a powerhouse group called Women United\, and under the direction of the dynamic Leadership Council\, we were able to make some significant strides. The team spent 2019 transitioning into their new role\, learning more about the inner workings of United Way\, serving women and children in need\, and closed the year out with intentional planning. The team is charged and ready to go\, and all we need is YOU. \nJoin us to hear all that was accomplished in 2019\, where you can plug in for 2020\, and how we further our work in domestic violence\, adult education and financial empowerment. There is so much to share\, but even more to do in this community\, as we strive to advance our most vulnerable to the life of their dreams. \nWomen United’s second annual membership meeting offers interested ladies the chance to hear about first year accomplishments\, upcoming advocacy opportunities and ways to get involved.  All ladies giving at the Leadership level (a $500 or greater undesignated gift to United Way) are eligible to join.  \nWe look forward to seeing you next week and be on the lookout for a calendar invite. For more information about United Way and Women United\, please contact womenunited@uwmidsouth.org to get involved!

SUMMARY:Days of Caring
DESCRIPTION:For volunteers who want to participate\, but can’t get out of the office during the day\, we offer evening service projects with Memphis Botanic Gardens and Women United.   \n\n \nWomen who are victims of domestic violence often leave their home quickly without packing. All they take with them are their children and the clothes on their backs. Join Women United as we sort the donated items received during the collection drive. These items ensure that women and children living in the shelter have the necessities they need to get back on their feet.  \n

SUMMARY:#FIGHTPOVERTY CHALLENGE
DESCRIPTION:The #FightPoverty challenge is an online fundraising campaign to educate the community about the severity of our local poverty. With such high poverty rates\, it is imperative for us to act now. This will be an opportunity for the entire community to unite with us in the fight against poverty\, raise significant funds for change\, and help drive the dreams of the Mid-South!\nHow you can help.\nJoin United Way of the Mid-South between June 21 — June 28th in the #FightPoverty challenge. \nThere are several ways to participate: \nBecome an individual fundraiser. Start a team to fundraise alongside your colleagues\, club\, team\, friends\, or family. Make a donation and share this page to your network \nHow it works and the expected impact\nUnited Way estimates roughly 20\,000 people in poverty can be promptly impacted by Driving The Dream in its early stages if we receive the support we need from donors\, grantors\, and other sources of philanthropy. \nA coalition of local businesses who are all focused on investing in innovative poverty reduction solutions and economic growth strategies will create opportunities for us all. That means nearly 10% of Mid-Southerners in poverty can receive support now\, and be connected to resources and opportunities to free them from generational cycles of poverty. \nFamilies and individuals in poverty work with the Driving The Dream providers to create a “map of their dreams\,” charting the order of steps\, programs\, and services necessary to help escape poverty and live the life of their dreams. \nText POVERTY to 30306 \n#FIGHTPOVERTY
