United Way of the Mid-South is committed to address the issue of affordable housing and stable home ownership as it relates to economic and social mobility of Shelby County residents. UWMS is proud to announce a new funding opportunity to address access and retention of affordable housing.

Statements of Interest will be accepted through February 23, 2024. Eligible organizations will be invited to submit a full application by March 22, 2024.

Purpose


United Way of the Mid-South seeks to support availability of Affordable Housing in Shelby County Tennessee through the funding of strategies that address the barriers to accessing affordable housing and/or increase retention of Homeowner affordable housing.

Statement of Interest Submission


Accepted through February 23, 2024

Organizations indicating interests that are clearly aligned with the identified strategies to be considered will be invited to submit a full application.

Non-profit 501-(c)3 Organizations, including a non-profit 501 (c)3 Organization representing a collaborative effort

Anticipated number of awards


1 – 3 Organizations

Award Range


$50,000 – $300,000

Funding Period


July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2025

Timeline

Acceptance of Statements of Interest:  February 1 – February 23, 2024

Application Training: February 28, 2:00 pm and February 29, 3:00 pm

Application Deadline: March 22, 11:59 pm

Notification of Funding: July 3, 2024

  • Enhancement of Online Resources for finding affordable rental housing and/or housing resources
  • Home Loan Pools/Guarantees for Home Purchase
  • Agency Owned Housing/Sublets
  • Rehab of Receivership Properties
  • Facilitating Access to Legal Services

Homeowner maintenance or retention of affordable housing

  • Home Ownership/Maintenance/Repair Education 
  • Home Repairs Funding for Properties with Code Violations
  • Project Facilitation Services for Major Home Repairs
  • Long-term Home Loans for Major Repairs
Strategies that Will Not be Funded
  • Direct Cash Assistance
  • Emergency Services Assistance (rent/utilities/mortgage, etc.)
  • Down Payment Assistance
  • Landlord Repair Assistance
  • Vacant/Blighted Property Cleanup
  • Construction
  • Purchase of Housing
  • Weatherization
  • Emergency or Transitional Housing/Shelter
