United Way of the Mid-South will celebrate their 95th anniversary this year. As part of the celebration, organizers are kicking off their Days of Caring Campaign. They want you to be a part of it. It’s local good news.
Laura Russell, Letitia Robinson, and the entire team at United Way of the Mid-South are taking steps and gearing up for their Days of Caring Campaign.
“There are more than 200,000 Mid-Southerners living in poverty,” said Russell, United Way of the Mid-South Director of Marketing and Communications.
If you think that number is startling, listen to this.
“45% of school-aged children in Memphis live in poverty and that’s just unacceptable,” said Russell.
United Way of the Mid-South’s Corporate and Community Engagement Manager, Letitia Robinson, grew up in the Bluff City and knows the need first hand.
“Grew up in South Memphis, Mallory Heights, 3rd Street. I’ve seen the community change, and I’ve seen the needs. And, it’s just in my DNA. So, it’s something I have to do. I have to give back to our community,” said Robinson. “Just the thought of helping someone make it through the day, helping a family, providing a meal for a family, building a shelter for a family should be something everyone wants to do.”
That’s where you come in. They need you to volunteer the week of September 10th.
“We are really trying to impact the areas of education, health and financial stability,” said Russell.
“There are projects ranging from painting to reading to children to building homes,” said Robinson.
With Memphis being named as one of the most charitable cities in the nation, United Way of the Mid-South is counting on you to give back and help your neighbor.
To kick off the days of caring, United Way of the Mid-South will hold a block party at the United Way Plaza September 10th from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
