Position Overview 

This position will generate the financial resources necessary to advance the UWMS mission and attain its Impact objectives.  The position intends to achieve financial targets by establishing, maintaining, and strengthening relationships with assigned workplaces with strong giving potential and history and researching and securing new corporate accounts.  Integral to this intent is an aggressive focus on time spent in the presence of donors and new business prospects.  The position is accountable for engaging assigned workplaces year-round to generate contributions throughout the year. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Year-round presence with and responsiveness to assigned corporate donors and prospects. 
  • Research and secure new accounts.
  • Make presentations to current and potential donors. 
  • Ability to write correspondence, proposals, and other documents to encourage donors and prospects to support UWMS. 
  • Secure fundraising volunteers as necessary. 
  • Recruitment and partnering with the annual Campaign Cabinet and business leaders.  
  • Customer-centric relationship development with customers assigned and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to analyze results and set clear objectives for corporate partners 
  • The disciplined use of technology to analyze results and improve effectiveness, efficiency, and collaboration with the organization.  
  • Interact, work with, and support the engagement, special events, communications, and marketing team.
  • Identify new and innovative ways to secure funding from the corporate community.
  • Ability to listen to prospects and donors, understand their interests and concerns, and quickly articulate how UWMS provides services to meet those needs. 
  • Works with Corporate Giving partners to set and meet the budget. 


  • Bachelor’s degree required in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Five years of fundraising or applied United Way campaign experience or five years in a sales management environment emphasizing applied customer-centric relationships and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with an ability to effectively engage diverse groups of individuals and organizations. 
  • Proficient and relevant knowledge and skills focusing on customer relationship management systems (CRM), Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and project management software.

Physical Requirements

This position requires the employee to be able to lift 30 pounds.  The employee is regularly required to stand for long periods.  The employee is frequently required to use finger and hand motion and to reach using arms and hands.  The position may also require significant walking and the capability to climb stairs.  The employee must be able to talk to and hear customers during events.  Specific visual abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  There may be additional physical requirements associated with off-site corporate or volunteer events.

This position requires the individual to work in various environments and conditions.   It requires possible coverage of round-the-clock work shifts for campaign support, evening and weekend work, shift work, working outdoors, and working with challenging clients.  The physical environment requires the employee to work inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.  The position requires the support of evening and weekend special events.  At least 60% of the time will be away from the office developing existing account relationships, team management, and new potential account partnerships.  Flexible hours are required as job duties demand.  Must have a valid Driver’s License, car insurance, and reliable transportation.  Must have a personal cell phone to communicate outside of the office.

  • Budget Aware: Clearly understands the correlation between funding and meeting the budget to fund Community Impact and the daily operations of UWMS.
  • Effective Fundraising:  The CG Manager is donor-focused and results-driven, relentlessly focusing on gaining financial resources to support United Way’s mission and community impact strategic objectives.
  • Researching and Securing New Business: The CG Manager will research and identify new opportunities and innovative ways to secure funding from previous donors. 
  • Strategic Relationship Management:  Develops and maintains strategic relationships that generate the financial resources necessary to support United Way’s mission. Builds trust and donor commitment to United Way.
  • Entrepreneurial and Innovative: Creatively seeks new opportunities to generate revenue and other resources that add greater value to the organization and the community. This includes the ability to understand and contribute to the product development process, assess donors’ interests, and accurately convey those to cross-functional teams.
  • Business Development and Sales:  Plans, implements, and evaluates business development and sales efforts.  Uses multiple methods and various sources of information to identify and approach prospective donors, maintain positive relationships with existing donors, and bring organizational resources to bear on achieving donor and impact goals.
  • Volunteer Management: This position works to build organizational capacity through volunteer collaboration and to develop high-impact, meaningful volunteer opportunities that increase revenue, impact, outcomes, and influence.
  • Business Acumen & Strategic Direction: Demonstrates understanding and knowledge of the United Way; understands the organization’s business and effectively creates strategy. Understands general business and financial principles required to lead, manage, and align resources for performance effectively; can read financial statements and create budgets.
  • Operational Planning & Execution: Establishes effective and efficient processes that align department priorities with organizational goals, strategy, and mission; collaborates effectively within the organization; inspires and motivates people to build the culture of United Way as the Mission of Choice.
  • Outward Turning:  Develops strategic relationships to benefit United Way and the community; Knows critical players in the community and is diligent in maintaining and expanding the network of partners.  Seeks to learn from inside and outside the network to build skills, knowledge, and abilities to challenge the organization in reaching its potential.  Is an effective spokesperson for United Way and its work.  Is present and visible in the community and with partners (donors, volunteers…); Engages, listens, and understands community aspirations.  Establishes credibility as a leader on critical issues and solutions affecting the labor community.

Salary Range: $58 to $63K
