The Resource Development team at United Way of the Mid-South is in full campaign mode as several of our corporate partners are committing to raising funds for our cause.

Valero Memphis Refinery raised more than $400,000 during their annual United Way campaign to support the Mid-South Community. This year marks not only Valero’s 40th anniversary, but also four decades of partnership with the United Way.

Atmos Energy closed out their 2020 campaign with 100% participation among their employees. State Volunteer Mutual Insurance Company just kicked off their campaign with a “There’s no place like home” theme to emphasize the need for affordable housing. UPS had our team in for the first time to talk about United Way and our Community Impact Fund. We are looking forward to partnering with them for a campaign soon.

A few of our corporate partners are also holding collection drives to help our community. Valero took an innovative approach amidst COVID-19 and had their employees make masks for students at virtual learning centers. They also held a food drive, raked leaves, pulled weeds and hosted other activities in the community. International Paper is hosting a drive to benefit Shelby County Schools and partner agencies who are in need of supplies resulting from COVID-19. Pfizer has hosted several drives for our partner agencies including Stuff the Bus and Sweet Cheeks Diaper Drive. They will be starting a coat and necessities drive benefiting Alpha Omega Veteran Services in November.

We want to thank First Horizon for inviting us to their movie night at the Summer Drive-In. This was a way to thank their employees for their contributions to United Way and share more about our message of moving people from where they are to where they dream to be.

Our Resource Development team is actively involved in opportunities that promote ways to help our community. The RD department participated once again in the 14th Annual MLGW United Way Charity Golf Tournament. This is one of the largest fundraising events conducted by our corporate partners. Our United Way Campaign Representatives (CRs) also participated in the virtual job fair at the Landers Center where participants were given information about United Way, 2-1-1 and FamilyWize.

Lastly, we would like to congratulate the most recent Touchdown Tuesday MVP winner, Ms. Nevonia Houston. As a Campaign Rep, she has sought out creative ideas to generate excitement for the FedEx Hub campaign. Nevonia comes in every morning with a huge smile and a positive attitude, always lending a helping hand and offering support anyway she can. Her positive outlook is contagious and brings laughter and joy which creates a pleasant environment for everyone around. Nevoina has embraced a new level of leadership skills and goes out of her way to support the team. Congratulations Nevoia you are Our Most Valuable Player!!
