In October, United Way of the Mid-South Campaign Representatives partnered with Porter-Leath to participate virtually in Read for the Record, the largest shared reading experience in the country. Each representative read “Evelyn Del Rey is Moving Away” to a classroom of preschool children. The book is a celebration of lasting friendship, the power of connection and encountering change — the perfect topics for little minds during the pandemic.

Our corporate partner, International Paper, held a collection drive for several of our partner agencies. The nonperishable items donated greatly surpassed projected quantities and International Paper had to add additional pickups to their originally scheduled two.  United Way is deeply grateful for their support.

The MLGW Steering Committee for their United Way Workplace Campaign adapted their traditional in-person campaign meetings to meet COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions. They organized multiple outdoor meetings to engage their employees, affording United Way the opportunity to reach those employees without virtual access. MLGW also held their annual golf tournament where players were able to socially distance and raise over $15,000. We send a big thanks to MLGW and their support of United Way’s mission.
