United Way of the Mid-South’s Free Tax Prep opens today with 30 locations across the Mid-South and online self-filing options. Households earning $67,000 or less in 2024 are eligible to have their returns prepared and filed for free by IRS-certified volunteers. No appointment is needed. Call 211 to find a location near you.
“Free Tax Prep has been helping families maximize their refund for over 20 years. United Way of the Mid-South is dedicated to helping low and moderate income households achieve financial stability and one way we can do that is to help people get all the tax credits they qualify for and avoid paying predatory fees. Thousands of people come back every year because they trust our services and our friendly, helpful volunteers,” says Matt Hein, program manager for Free Tax Prep.
Last year, Free Tax Prep prepared over 10,000 tax returns, garnering over $11 million in refunds for Mid-Southerners. Filers benefited from $3.6 million in Earned Income Tax Credit and saved an estimated $2.2 million in preparation fees.
Mid-Southerners can use a service they trust and receive their refund quickly via direct deposit with United Way’s Free Tax Prep.
Free Tax Prep is made possible by funding from Regions Bank and the IRS. Free Tax Prep services at Su Casa, including in Spanish, will begin on February 6 and are made possible by a generous grant from Wells Fargo.
