February 11 each year is 2-1-1 day (get it?) and we’re proud of our partnership with our friends at Memphis Public Library who answer requests for information on health and human services across the Mid-South area.
Nationally, the program has achieved great strides in connecting people in need with services that can help, as trained operators help people cut through the aggravating “red tape” of finding the right social service program to address a particular need. The graphic below highlights the success of 2-1-1’s across America.
Locally, the 2-1-1 office released this statement in celebration of the day:
In six counties in west TN, LINC/2-1-1 of the Memphis Public Library & Information Center provides information about social services – how to get and give help – through its 2-1-1 call center, one of the national network of 2-1-1 call centers and one of only two library-based 2-1-1 call centers in the nation!
Later this year, MPLIC’s LINC/2-1-1 and JobLINC services will celebrate significant anniversaries – 10 years for 2-1-1, 25 years for JobLINC, and 40 years for LINC! Watch for details coming soon!
Locally, LINC/2-1-1 answers calls Monday through Thursday, 10 AM – 8 PM, Friday and Saturday, 10 AM – 5 PM, and Sunday 1 – 5 PM. Just call 2-1-1 (alternate numbers: (901-415-2790 or toll-free 855-354-4211; TTY line 901-415-2701). Language interpretation is available for limited English speakers.
